With dB Volume you turn your iPhone into a Sound Pressure Level (SPL) Meter. You can choose between the industry standard weighting curves and response times.
Use dB Volume for measuring environmental noises - it offers now Leq measurement!
dB Volume features:
- response time modes: impulse, slow, fast
- weighting functions: A B C Z (unweighted)
- peak hold function
- Leq measurement
We calibrated dB Volume as carefully as possible for all available devices. But: keep in mind, that due to manufacturing tolerances this calibration does not necessarily apply to your device – it’s still an iPhone and not a calibrated measuring instrument!

Good and simplistic. User interface could use some graphical improvements, but in terms of usability it works well.
I had this app running next to our real db meter and the readings were identical. Very nice.
No problems at all. Best free app for measuring sound Ive found.
This is a great app if you are concerned about your hearing. I wouldnt compare it to a professional meter, but it does give you a excellent idea of how loud it is. Use it and save your hearing.
I tried lots of other apps like decibel+ and all of those apps but they never worked properly and were non accurate but this one actually worked and was calibrated properly! I know this is just basically a lite version but all the full version lets you do is turn your phone on its side so I say so far this app is the best decibel meter on the App Store! I love it!
Some bad moments
wow Leq measurement now!
unfortunatly on iPad three every measurement is about 10 to 15 dB too low. unusable. You should provide calibbration by user, if its too difficult to have the right gain on different mobiles.

Not designed for iPhone, more display info with bigger screen.
no max or average values
flash opening screen shows 2displays, only access 1 on iPhone 4S.
For novice not enough info, app is too technical for novice.

I like the free app... Works very well... I wanted to upgrade but for $14.99 its not worth it.... Way to expensive...
App started in negative db, I shut it down started it again, same thing. Erased it and downloaded it again, same thing. I Know it is free, but it is not worth wasting data on.
Have used it for years and it just quit ? Anyone else finding the same thing ?
I go to tons of car shows and I work in car audio and I use this every day, people wanna know what db there car will hit things like that. Fast works great! And i tested to se if it would read the same as my term lab and its dead on!
